“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”

Sometimes in life the chains holding you back can seem unbreakable and the walls holding you captive can seem indestructible. It can seem like the forces separating you from your God-given freedom are unobtainable because of the forces against you. You may feel like your past is too rough around the edges, you aren’t strong enough to withstand or that you are too far gone. Let me assure you, you’re not any of these things. God is asking you to come back to his open arms. God is waiting to welcome you home.
“Because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, but had torn the chains apart and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him.”
Are you ashamed of the sinful life in which you have indulged?
Are you angry because of the wrong done against you?
Are you holding back tears because you’ve been so hurt that you don’t know if you can last another day?
Are you lost?
Are you done, ready to throw in the towel, and quit?
He is waiting to welcome you home.
These chains may be sins that have held you captive for so long that you have forgotten what life was like before them. Maybe you have tried and tried to leave these sin in your past but they keep sneaking back up on you, making you feel like you can’t make it through the day, week, or month without them. The grip may be so tight that you don’t feel like you can escape. The walls keeping you distant from God may be the inability to forgive and love those around you or even yourself. Maybe the walls are keeping you in your comfortable place and you don’t feel like you’re ready to accept the mission God has for you. These chains and walls are not part of the story God has written for you. God has plans for your life that do not include these walls or chains.
“Then the city wall will collapse, and the troops will advance, each man straight ahead.”
You are not the chains holding you back. You are not the walls keeping you in place. You are more than your sin, brokenness, or unforgiveness. God determines who you are. In Colossians 3:12, the Bible says that God’s people are holy and loved and that God has given you compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. God has already given you these things. He believes in you. He is asking you to come back to Him and begin to live to your full potential.
You are not a prisoner to these walls and chains. God is still providing for you and He is doing a work in you right now to break down these barriers. It may seem impossible in your small imagination, but nothing is impossible for God.
“The prisoner is soon to be set free; he will not die [and go] to the Pit, and his food will not be lacking.”
Don’t run back to your old lifestyle.
Don’t turn away.
Come to be embraced by God’s grace
Come to be filled with his strength to make it through each day.
Come to be satisfied.
Come to be loved.
This is where you belong.
He is here.
He is waiting.
You may feel like you are unworthy of this love but hear me out. He has forgiven your sins. He made you new in His death and resurrection. He has made you a conqueror. You are not defined by the things that have happened to you. God is going to make you so much bigger than anything anyone has done to you. You were always meant to be here. God’s presence and love is the place you have been searching for.
I hear the chains breaking and the wall crumbling. You’ve got this. God is waiting to welcome you home.
He’s waiting for you.Click To Tweet
