Right Where You Are

Do you know where you feel called to be or what you feel called to do? Are you doing that right now? Are you confused on how God can be using you when you don’t feel like you are in an occupation that aligns with you calling?

Then He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

Mark 16:15-16

All my life, I have felt called to be a missionary. I have always felt this fire burning deep within my heart to go and share about my Heavenly Father. It has always rattled me to my core and broke me to think about people living in our world that have never been able to know how much our dear Lord loves them. I have never doubted that God was calling me to go into the world and share the gospel. To me, this meant going on international mission trips and serving outside of my country. Because of this, I decided to go on a couple international trips to serve. Many people said it was courageous and brave, but I thought it was easy because I truly felt that I was living out my calling. To me, it was much harder to come back to the states and continue school because I didn’t understand how I could fulfill my calling when I was here. In 2016, I went to Nicaragua and found it easy to share about my life and my love for God to all the people I encountered and even on a live radio station, but once I was back, I realized it wasn’t quite as easy to share with those close to me, the people that surrounded me on a daily basis. What would they think? Would they view me differently? Did I really care what they thought as long as I was following the path God had for me and remaining loyal to Him?

I realized that I had close friends that didn’t follow God and I wasn’t talking to them about all the things He had done in my life. There were people I was seeing on a daily basis that I wasn’t sharing His Good New with. Before we can share His Word with those on the other side of the map, we must share it right where we are. In our local Walmart. In the restaurant we eat at every Sunday. In our own community. He has called us to make disciples right here, right where we are.

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

God calls us to “Go”. He doesn’t say go to another country. He doesn’t say pack up and move across the world to share the Gospel. He just says to go and to share His word. In reality, whether I was serving in another country or right here in Radford, Virginia, I was living out the calling God had for me. I was exactly where He wanted me to be, I just had to be willing to be used right where I was.

Are you allowing God to use you where you are?

Every person in your life, God intentionally placed there. Your family, your friends, your colleagues, your neighbors. Each of these people need you and your faith. Even strangers that you might not have met yet. You don’t have to leave your neighborhood, city, state, or country to influence a life. Maybe you are called to influence thousands of lives overseas, but maybe you are called to influence the one life that will influence those thousands. Each are equally important to God.

My heart has always been on fire for the world, but now, now my heart is burning for those around me. I am right here, placed right where God needs me, to reach the people that will one day be on fire for Jesus. We can’t be worried about if they will view us differently or if they won’t accept us for our beliefs, we have to do His work, share His gospel, and make disciples. He will take care of us.

“…Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He won’t leave you or abandon you until all the work for the service of the Lord’s house is finished.”

1 Chronicles 28:20

Be brave enough to find your place and live out your calling, even if your calling is right here.

If you want to see God glorified, start in your family, your friend circle, your neighborhood, or even your state. Let God use you right where you are.
